“Closer” is a song by American EDM DJ/ Producer duo Andrew Taggart and Alexander Pall aka ‘The Chainsmokers’, in collaboration with American singer-songwriter Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, who we popularly know as Halsey. Released in 2016, the song was co-written by Shaun Frank, Freddy Kennett, Isaac Slade and Joe King.

Inspired by the time at his University, Taggart makes references through the song of some of his actual experiences, making it fit well in the story they convey through the song.
The first version – the official lyric video for “Closer” was released on 29th July, 2016. Watch it here!

The lyrics express a story of a romance that didn’t last. The video in the lyrical version, where we can see the sensual couple living in the moment, is suggestive of a desire for lovemaking.

The official music video was released later in 2016, on the 24th October. Watch it here!

In this version, the video shows the lead characters Taggart and Halsey meet four years after their breakup. The two see each other at a party again, looking as young and charming as they did when they were still happy in love, as if the two were trapped in time, never aging. And naturally they are drawn to each other, hoping to get intimate with each other, reliving their past steamy moments.

Closer” is the first song that Taggart lent his voice to. And Halsey’s voice complemented beautifully well with his voice. The song became one of the biggest smash hits of 2016, playing like an anthem world over by the fans.

The track was soon listed in ‘Billboard’s 100 Best Pop Songs of 2016’. It held the number one position on the ‘Hot 100’ for 12 consecutive weeks, received a Grammy nomination in 2017 for ‘Best Pop Duo/Group’. And in 2018, ‘Closer’ was certified ‘Diamond’ having sold over 10 million copies in the United States alone.

The song is catchy and the lyrics are intriguing. Closer is a timeless piece of art, hitting hard everytime one hears it. Over six years after its release one hears it playing even today in meets, pubs and parties. They ain’t getting older and the song isn’t getting old either!
