‘Varaha Roopam’ is a powerful song featured in the Kannada movie ‘Kantara’ directed by Rishab Shetty which was released on September 30, 2022.

The song is an exceptional classical fusion music composition by B.Ajaneesh Loknath. The lyrics have been penned by Shashiraj Kavoor and the song is sung by Sai Vignesh.

The video is spellbinding showcasing an age old ritualistic dance performance – ‘Bhoota Kola’, during which local spirits or deities are invoked in villages. The performer is a rigorously trained person, adorned with ornaments, dramatic makeup and costume, a headgear and mask, who displays an aggressive outlook, dances fiercely and performs multiple rituals amid collective chanting and drums. After the dance performance, the performer, believed to be possessed by a spirit, acts as a medium of communication between God and the worshippers that wish to seek God’s blessing, prosperity and resolutions to the challenges they are faced with.

Through the lyrics, in this song.. the villagers stand to worship the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu – the supreme God. He who assumes the form of a Varah – a wild boar, fights and shields them. He who embodies the essence of Lord Shiva, a savior, guards and protects the believers.

Intensely divine in feels, ‘Varaha Roopam’ is a master piece that has won millions of hearts across the world and has proved to be a major highlight of the film ‘Kantara’ that emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2022.
