I see you in the corner,
behind the blinding lights.
Always the loudest mourner,
even on the warmest nights.

I made the call to you yesterday,
and saw you decline.
I tried to write this poem,
at least a thousand times.

I created borders,
so you wouldn’t cross my mind.
I wanted to reorder,
all the horrors I had been assigned.

Oh, how foolish I was to believe the stars had aligned,
I am just the one you left behind.
But I must admit,
life looks so much sweeter from the sidelines!
