Our leaders are on television,
and they tell us we are free.
Our leaders are on television,
and they tell us not to scream-
for the police will protect us,
and fire their guns if need be.
Our leaders are on television,
and they tell us not to worry-
poverty is just the consequence of immigrants.
Our leaders are on television,
they tell us that the economy is fine-
we’ll just add a few more cents to cheap wine.
Our leaders are on television,
and they tell us not to cry-
gender based violence is a serious crime,
yet they refuse to address it beyond an invisible line;
because this is the treatment you get,
when you are a female resident.
Our leaders are in the papers,
and they tell us we are free-
the opposing parties are our enemies.
Our leaders are on the streets,
and they tell us not to flee-
patriarchy is the cornerstone of our society.
Our leaders are on television,
and they tell us not to fret-
the world is ending,
but at least we get to rest!
